Our Founder
Mrs. Swathi Chandrashekar stands as the visionary force propelling the concepts of Citizen Parliament, Citizen India, and Mantra Foundation. Her inspiration stems from a profound vision: to empower the youth of our nation, molding them into formidable future policymakers. Mrs. Swathi has played a pivotal role in shaping our mission, meticulously crafting the foundational principles and orchestrating the diverse programs that constitute Citizen Parliament.
Leader Par Excellence!
Swathi, a dynamic leader, began her journey in public service through the National Service Scheme (NSS), actively participating in community development projects and social initiatives. She later joined the Student Union in 2009, serving as Vidyarthini Pramukh and eventually as a State Executive Member. As a committed student politics leader, she played a pivotal role in organizing various protests against injustices and mishaps in Bengaluru University and VTU, including successful demonstrations that led to a reduction in bus pass charges. Under her leadership, student movements gained momentum, addressing key issues affecting university students. She was also at the forefront of protests against the Nirbhaya case, leading a candle march demonstration and demanding stronger laws for women's safety.
An avid cultural enthusiast, she played a key role in uniting artists and led a delegation of folk artists from Karnataka to a prestigious event in Delhi, where they showcased and promoted Karnataka’s rich folklore and traditions on a national platform. Inspired by the principles of Mahatma Gandhi, she has been actively involved in initiatives focused on environmental conservation and rural development.
Swathi was deeply inspired by Indira Gandhi’s leadership and vision, which led her to join the Indian National Congress. She was officially inducted into the party by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka, Sri Siddaramaiah, and Deputy Chief Minister, Sri DK Shivakumar, marking the beginning of her journey in mainstream politics. She currently serves as the National Spokesperson of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
Exceptional Talent!
She possesses expertise in Carnatic Classical music and is proficient in both light music and cinema songs. Notably, she showcased her vocal prowess at the Tyagaraja Aaradhane in Tiruvayyaru in 2015. Her talent extends to collaborations with renowned singers such as Sri Kalaimamani Kadri Gopalnath, Sri Manoj Tiwari, Sri Rajesh Krishnan, and Sri Mano. With a musical footprint spanning the state and country, she has graced diverse platforms with her soulful concerts.
Under the guidance of Sri Pandit Birju Maharaj, she has honed her Kathak skills and performed the traditional dance on various prestigious stages. A highlight includes her Kathak performance at the World Culture Festival, organized by Art of Living in Delhi in 2015.
She also pioneered a new concept of presenting Carnatic vocals and Kathak recitals concurrently in a single concert, blending the two art forms seamlessly. This unique presentation was launched at Ravindra Manch in Jaipur, earning widespread appreciation from art connoisseurs.
Crème de la Crème of Journalism
She distinguished herself as the sole Karnataka journalist at Mr. Donald Trump's media interaction, posing one of the few questions. As the Anchor, Director, and Producer of the popular TV5 Kannada show 'Namma Bahubali,' she completed a remarkable 200 episodes.
Her impactful journalism includes mediating discussions between the Chief Ministers of Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka to repatriate two women missing for two decades, facilitating their return from Mental Health rehabilitation centers. Notably, she accurately predicted 99 seats for BJP in the 2017 Gujarat State Election and broke the news of the Congress-JDS coalition in the Karnataka State Election, securing exclusive interviews with top leaders.
She provided ground reporting for the Telangana State Elections, accurately predicting the Congress-TDP coalition's loss. Her extensive coverage of the 2019 Union Elections spanned 12 states, showcasing her commitment to thorough journalism.
Additionally, she has authored numerous articles and special reports for various Kannada newspapers. As the Founder and CEO of Citizen India, she actively fosters awareness of South Indian culture, heritage, and current affairs.
